Do You Second Life?

Well, if you do, you are in loads of luck. This edition of Proto.in is to be broadcasted on an island, with all the sessions during the event being broadcasted live to the uh,.. Second World that is in existence. I am hearing things that this is the first ever conference in India to be doing a virtual broadcast in Second Life. So as usual, it seems we are pushing forth with new platforms and mediums of reach, with every new edition of Proto. We do realize that not everyone has been able to register for the event because of various reasons. Here’s a chance to be part of the talks and the presentations, in real-time – wherever you might be.
We spent quite a few hours in the venue yesterday, as we mentally ran through the entire experience, from walking in, to the time it should take for check-in, the direction, the flow, the guidelines – it’s the fun part of planning a meet – both virtually and in the real life. As someone who still loves to code, planning such a thing is always like writing the lines of code for a program and then just mentally running through the lines over and over trying to ensure that the “dry run” outputs are the desired ones.
Coming back to Second Life, our partner in this ordeal is a company named Universal Print Systems, and they have gone beyond just printing. They are one company that I know is extensively looking for alternative streams of media and platform to hook up to and effectively exploit as a means to create brands, build and grow businesses or just expand your sphere of influence, and it seems there are quite a bit of people who live their “second lives” in that world who can be effectively targetted.
Amazon Web Services, the company behind the Elastic computing cloud will be the contributor and supporter for the initiative, all the way from the computing space that is required, to covering the logistics on the ground with cameras and the interaction systems that form part of the setup. For those who will be joining us live via Second Life, there are also some sessions where Jeffrey Barr, one of the senior evangelists for Amazon Web Services, will be available for interaction after talking to you about some of the opportunities that he foresees and is observing across the world and in online communities. I would have loved to have Jeff over in the flesh at Proto, but it seems that he is going to be an advantage that only those in logging in via SL are going to enjoy, atleast for this edition of Proto.
