Proto is over and the buzz is all over the blogosphere. You wouldn't believe how many new sites that focus on Indian startups are popping up as a result of that and how many of them want to review all the companies that presented during Proto. Proto.in 2007 came to an end with fantastic feedbacks. We are already considering to get started for the next edition of the event.
There are suggestions to make this more frequent than a yearly event and we are definitely considering it. There is a meetup session planned next week to do an after-analysis of the event and depending on that, the dates and occurrence of the next edition will be announced.

"Think of this as a show-and-tell for technology start-ups. Proto.in, India’s first event to showcase products and services of tech start-ups, opens next week in Chennai on 20 January.
Organised by The Knowledge Foundation (TKF), a non-profit organisation of a group of techies and entrepreneurs, Proto.in will give 30 start-up hopefuls eight minutes to demonstrate their idea to a group of venture capitalists (VCs) and tech professionals."

We have 90 entrepreneurs, 15 VCs, a few Angel Investors, 150 Professionals and about 50 students who have registered for the event as of today and we are getting on an average 10-12 new registrations everyday and rising in numbers. The media that have confirmed their presence includes The Hindu, Economic Times, Deccan Chronicle, India Today, RedHerring, EFY. We have also notified the Television Media and they are expected to be there.

We have been very picky as to who should be the right corporation to sponsor an event as such. We had quite an elaborate list of DOs and DON'Ts and were very keen on breaking none of it. In a platform where innovation is stressed, it just didn't seem right to give way for corporates who'd overshadow the attention that these companies very much require to withstand their struggles and give life to their vision.
